Two women have been found dead in a remote part of Victoria's high country. Police say it's possible the pair may have been dead for three days and are asking the public to help identify them.

The bodies of two women, believed to be in their twenties and thirties, were discovered by hikers in a remote area near Nells at Lindenfeld Point, close to Cleve Coal Hut in Victoria's Mount Bogong region. Emergency services responded to the scene, but harsh weather conditions, including sub-zero temperatures and blizzards, hampered recovery efforts.

Police have stated that the deaths are not considered suspicious and suspect that the women succumbed to severe weather, likely resulting in hypothermia. The identities of the women remain unknown, and no missing persons reports have been filed. Authorities are continuing their investigation and working to identify the deceased.

Remote and isolated, hikers made a grim discovery of two bodies while venturing in Victoria's high country. We're unknowing how long they'd been there, but clearly they were deceased. The bodies of two young women were found at Nells at Lindenfeld Point near Cleve Coal Hut yesterday afternoon. The hikers alerted emergency services, search and rescue squad and the air wing were first on the scene. It's fair to say at this early stage that they may have been there for the last two to three days. Due to the conditions and isolated location, police were limited in their movements and camped at the scene overnight. The weather in the last two to three days has been down as low as minus 2.8, winds up around 83 kilometres an hour and there has been snow falling. Emergency services worked this morning to recover the bodies from Mount Bogan. Detectives will continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths, but believe they are not suspicious. They are exceptionally hard conditions, blizzard conditions you would call them, and it's likely that the two people have succumbed to the weather conditions, causing severe hypothermia leading to their death. The women, whose identities remain unknown, are believed to have been aged in their twenties and thirties. Police are still working to identify who they are, as no missing persons reports have been filed. We hope to be able to identify the people in due course.
