Beninese football is mourning the death of Razak Omotoyossi, a former national team striker remembered as a dedicated servant to the sport in his country. Omotoyossi, who was 39, scored 21 goals in 47 appearances for Benin between 2004 and 2016 and was regarded as one of the nation's top scorers alongside Stéphane Sesegnon and Steve Mooney.

He played at the 2008 and 2010 Africa Cup of Nations and had a club career that took him to Moldova, Sweden, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Ghana, and France. Omotoyossi passed away in Nigeria, where he had been living, and had reportedly been facing financial difficulties, recently appealing for help on social media.
