1980s pop icon Belinda Carlisle is back with her first solo English language album in nearly 30 years. Rising to fame with the Go-Go's, her subsequent smash hits including 'Heaven Is A Place On Earth' and 'Summer Rain' can still fill any dance floor.

The album features covers of popular songs from the 1960s and 1970s that shaped her upbringing in California, including two tracks by Harry Nilsson, a personal favorite and acquaintance of Carlisle.

Reflecting on her experiences as a female artist, Carlisle noted the challenges faced by all-female bands like The Go-Go's in the early days, when record companies were hesitant to sign them. She expressed hope that conditions have improved for women in music today. The album is now available.

She's been lighting up the music world since the 80s, but now Belinda Carlyle is taking a deep dive into some of the biggest hits of the 60s and 70s for her new album, Once Upon a Time in California. The whole concept of the album was taking songs from my childhood growing up in California. They were on the California radio, which is very much a part of the culture. You hear some of these songs and you immediately feel the vibe. You've got two from Harry Nilsson, so he's obviously a favorite, not only one, but you also do Everybody's Talking from Midnight Cowboy. I actually knew Harry Nilsson, and he used to come to my husband's restaurant in Brentwood, California, and hold court in the bar. These two songs were on the list, and they both worked out, so I'd like to think that he's approved, wherever he is. Every song brings back a memory. That reminds me of junior high school, you know, and memories. A friend of mine, I'm going over to her house after school. It's been groundbreaking for female artists in so many ways, particularly right from the start with The Go-Go's. When you see young female artists coming through today, do you think they're having an easier time, a tougher time? I'd like to think that it's easier for women in music now. I mean, it couldn't have been any tougher when The Go-Go's and record companies wouldn't sign us because we were women, and they said there had been no track record of an all-female band.
