Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 may have been the best-selling game of November, but Battlefield 6 is on track to win the year. The latest sales data from Circana is positioning Battlefield to top Call of Duty for the first time in the two franchises' rivalry.

According to Circana's monthly US game sales report, Battlefield 6 is currently the best-selling game of the year, surpassing Call of Duty Black Ops 7, which has traditionally led annual sales for nearly two decades. Black Ops 7, despite topping November's monthly sales, ranks seventh for the year and faces challenges in catching up, partly due to its later release and Game Pass availability complicating sales tracking.

In other news, the co-op open-world game Terminator Survivors has been delayed indefinitely as developers shift focus to a single-player experience. Additionally, director James Cameron confirmed he is developing a new Terminator film, which will not feature Arnold Schwarzenegger as the T-800 and aims to introduce a new generation of characters.

Coming up, Battlefield may outsell Call of Duty for the first time ever, and an upcoming Terminator video game has been delayed indefinitely, but there may be a new Terminator movie in the works. Let's get into it. Call of Duty Black Ops 7 launched just over a month ago and it was the best-selling game of November. This isn't really a surprise as Activision's annual shooter has consistently been the top game in the month of its release for the last 18 years. What's more of a surprise is that for the first time in franchise history, this year's Battlefield is on track to beat Call of Duty in overall sales for the year. The news comes by way of Circana's monthly report for game sales in the US. In November, Black Ops 7 debuted at number one, making it the seventh best-selling game of the year to date, behind Battlefield 6 in the top spot, followed by NBA 2K26, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Borderlands 4 in second, third, and fourth place, and EA Sports, College Football 26, and Madden NFL 26 in fifth and sixth place, respectively. These are year to date, so they may shuffle around once we get December sales numbers, but Black Ops 7 does have some catching up to do. A couple things to keep in mind here are that these games all have a head start on COD, and people getting gift cards or new consoles for Christmas will likely move a few more copies of the popular shooter. The other big factor, though, is that Black Ops 7 was available day one on Game Pass, and how Microsoft tracks those numbers or what constitutes a success compared to conventional sales isn't exactly clear. Black Ops 7's sales in Europe also weren't as good as previous years, and Activision Blizzard has addressed this, stating that it wouldn't be releasing two Black Ops or Modern Warfare titles back-to-back in the future. Battlefield 6 was the result of EA DICE going back to the drawing board following a few disappointing installments, and clearly that paid off, so it's going to be interesting to see how Call of Duty reinvents itself to get back in fighting shape for whatever the next installment is. Earlier this week we got the old-school arcade throwback Terminator 2D No Fate, but anybody hoping for a more modern game set in the Terminator universe might be waiting a while, as yesterday it was announced that the co-op open-world game Terminator Survivors is delayed indefinitely to make some pretty major changes. This news comes by way of a post on the game's official Steam page from Nacon Studio Milan creative producer Marco Ponte, who wrote, After months of internal testing, discussions with players and fans of the license, we came to the conclusion that to give you an authentic Terminator experience with the best possible shooting and exploration gameplay, we would have to put aside the cooperative multiplayer, Ponte says. We know this may come as a disappointment, but we believe it's the right creative direction for an uncompromising vision of the world after Judgment Day. If you're not familiar, Terminator Survivors was announced way back in 2022 with a CGI reveal trailer and at one point had an October 2024 release date, which was eventually pushed to 2025, and with 2026 almost two weeks away, I wasn't really counting on that one coming out this year. Personally, I was pretty skeptical about this game when it was announced, since there is such a glut of multiplayer survival experiences out there already. A single-player open-world game sounds a lot more appealing to me, though I'm also skeptical it will ever see the light of day after getting kicked around in development for so long, and also Terminator games haven't had the best track record. I recently did a deep dive on some of the best, worst, and weirdest ones ever made, so go check out that video if you want a little history lesson. But it's not all bad news for Terminator fans. James Cameron has said that a new movie in the franchise is the next thing he plans to focus on. Cameron mentioned a desire to revisit the franchise back in 2022, and he gave an update in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, saying, quote, Once the dust clears on Avatar in a couple months, I'm going to really plunge into that. There are a lot of narrative problems to solve. The biggest is how do I stay enough ahead of what's really happening to make it science fiction? Cameron is, of course, referring to the current state of artificial intelligence in real life, which is obviously a very central part of the Terminator films, and it's going to be interesting to see how he tackles it in a way that is entertaining, relevant, and also future-proof. Cameron remained vague about details on the story, but did confirm the new project is not going to involve Arnold Schwarzenegger as the T-800, stating, quote, I can safely say he won't be in it. It's time for a new generation of characters. I insisted Arnold had to be involved in Terminator Dark Fate, and it was a great finish to him playing the T-800. There needs to be a broader interpretation of Terminator and the idea of a time war and super intelligence. I want to do new stuff that people aren't imagining. James Cameron's latest film, Avatar Fire and Ash, hits theaters this weekend, and as successful as those films have been, I think a lot of people would like to see the director move on to something completely different. I reviewed Fire and Ash for IGN, and I loved it, apparently more than a lot of other critics did, but even so, I would love to see the director explore something else. In addition to Terminator, he's also talked about Ghost of Hiroshima, a film on the history of the atomic bombing of Japan, as well as a sequel to Alita Battle Angel, and he recently optioned Joe Abercrombie's fantasy novel, The Devils, which is super fun. I highly recommend you read it. It's basically Medieval Suicide Squad, and it would make a pretty kick-ass James Cameron movie, but whatever he's working on next, we'll have to wait and see.
