It's a sad, sad situation that we're in, and I feel so badly for so many of these people that are being just fired because they express themselves, because they say what they think and they think what they feel. Locally, a Las Vergenas Unified employee and a UCLA staffer have been placed on administrative leave after social media posts about Kirk. That's wrong. We got freedom of speech. Say whatever you want. In Downey, city council member Miguel Trujillo is facing backlash for posting no one mourns the wicked. And an LAUSD teacher is under investigation after posting far right expletives have a target on their backs and deserve to die. One down, millions to go. Context matters. The location of the speech, if they were posting on work property or if they were posting within work hours, that could be an issue. Legal analyst Mary David says what's happening right now clearly shows how the line between personal and professional has blurred. What people think is a private opinion online can quickly spill into their work life. And it also depends on whether their speech would be considered creating a hostile environment for other employees. And she says if a post damages a company's reputation, that employee could lose their job. There's no reason why people can't view or can't voice their views about Charlie Kirk and his death freely. I think there shouldn't be any ramifications for people to voice it, just like there weren't any ramifications when people voiced their opinions about the killing of George Floyd, the killing of Philando Castile, the killing of Michael Brown Jr. Bottom line, you can post your opinion.
