Rohingya families, already displaced from Myanmar, now face shrinking resources and limited opportunities for their children. The UN Refugee Agency reports that only 38% of the required $256 million in aid has been committed, putting the future of young refugees at further risk.

Since June, most schools in Cox's Bazaar in southern Bangladesh have shut, leaving nearly half a million young Rohingya refugees without access to formal education. Parents like Mohammad Farooq are worried about their children's future. My daughters used to be excited about going to school. We never had to worry. We always knew they were safe there. But with schools closed, they are out all day, often getting into fights, and every day feels wasted. The UN Children's Agency says it had to suspend operations at more than 4,500 schools in June, a result of the sharp drop in international aid, especially from the US since Donald Trump took office in January. This is forcing children into early marriage and work. I have too many daughters, so if anyone asks to marry the older ones, I marry them off. I couldn't continue their studies, but my son-in-law promised he would let my daughter continue her education. I hope he will keep his word. It's eight years since around a million Rohingya fled Myanmar to escape persecution. They crossed into southern Bangladesh, turning the area into one of the world's largest refugee camps. While the number of people has increased, resources have shrunk. The International Rescue Committee says no children younger than 12 have access to education. It's deeply painful. None of the children in the camps can study anymore. We fled Myanmar, watching our homes burn. Now, here in the camps, it feels like the dreams of our new generation are being burned too. The UN Refugee Agency estimates it needs about $256 million to support displaced Rohingya this year. But it's only received commitments for about 38% of that amount.
