A recent Deloitte report indicates that artificial intelligence could help reduce the annual global costs of climate disasters by $70 billion. The report projects that climate-related damages could reach $460 billion, a figure that has doubled compared to the previous 15 years. Cities such as Hong Kong and Singapore are leading in climate resilience investments, including the implementation of AI-based techniques to manage and mitigate the impact of extreme weather events. For example, Hong Kong has begun using AI to analyze CCTV data and manage stormwater, which has contributed to faster recovery after severe storms. The report suggests that broader adoption of such AI technologies could play a significant role in reducing damages and enhancing recovery efforts in vulnerable regions.

I think the most important thing is that the funding globally is flowing into climate resilience. And in fact, we know that Asia is one of the most vulnerable regions to climate change around the world. And this is because of the combination of the projected climate impacts as the climate changes, and also the number of vulnerable people remembering that the impact of climate change is being most felt by people who are already vulnerable. The capabilities of governments and cities across the region really varies. And the levels of investment, the investment capacity across the region varies according to those climate risks, but also levels of economic development. And in fact, focusing on Hong Kong, which is obviously being impacted, as we heard from Emily earlier, by this super typhoon, Hong Kong is one of the most prepared cities globally and have invested really heavily in climate resilience measures, along with other advanced cities like Singapore, where you are today, and Hong Kong. And so there's been really significant investments, including large engineering measures like the Anderson Road quarry stormwater tank, teams activated to unblock drains. And what we're seeing really interestingly is the use of new advanced AI-based techniques to improve resilience to these events. And that same report that you mentioned, where we've projected $460 billion worth of damages, that's a doubling of damages as compared with the last 15 years. We project that AI-based techniques can help us save about $70 billion of those. And we're starting to see those in Hong Kong. So Hong Kong is starting to use AI-based techniques, analysing CCTV data to identify problems across the region. And as a result of these, during the big storm event that happened last month in Hong Kong, record rainfall, the city was able to get back to normal relatively quickly. And our hope is that as this typhoon unfolds across Hong Kong, that the city is able to reduce damages, keep people safe, and recover quickly.
