Cincinnati's Over-the-Rhine neighborhood is coming together after multiple shootings against juveniles.

The Wesley Chapel Mission after-school program in Cincinnati's Over-the-Rhine neighborhood is serving around 100 children, offering them a safe environment following recent shootings in the area. Program leader Janine Shelbourne expressed concern for the children's safety and resilience, especially after two young people were injured and another, 16-year-old Thomas Bell, was killed in separate incidents.

In response, the program has brought in mental health organizations to support both children and staff. Cincinnati police have also collaborated with community partners on neighborhood beautification efforts, aiming to create a safer and more welcoming environment for residents.

They are the most resilient children that I have ever been around, but the reality is they do. Everyone needs a safe place to grow up. Shelbourne leads Wesley Chapel mission in over the Rhine. The after school program serves around 100 community kids. It's right across from Grant Park where Thursday night. Officers were on the scene of yet another shooting. Cincinnati police say the two young victims, 12 and 15 years old, will recover. Is there a fear? A concern that these two kids could be kids that you have interacted with at some point? I hope not because my heart hurts every time I hear anything about any one of the babies. I'm looking to see do I know him or her? And and when I do, it's like I hurt because I love these kids. That includes 16 year old Thomas Bell. A memorial is tethered at the corner of Grant Park where he was gunned down in September. CPD arrested an 18 year old man for Bell's murder. We brought in different mental health organizations to come. Talk to our kids, talk to our staff. So we're here to be supportive. Be that safe haven for them. We tried to ask, but CPD didn't share much about Thursday shooting, though we did talk about safety in North OTR. CPD was out with community partners Friday. Working on a beautification blitz in the neighborhood. And there are all sorts of efforts that there are underway to mulch to remove weeds to remove graffiti. As this strategy ends, this community will be cleaner. It will look nicer, and that's really, really important for the people who live here, work here, play here. When you hear that's being done, what's what's your thoughts? Good, we need it. I think everybody needs to be in an area where it's nice. You're helping the community love where they live.
