The incident took place during lunchtime, causing students to seek shelter in classrooms or flee into the surrounding neighborhood. Police responded within minutes and found the two injured students, while the suspected shooter, a juvenile male, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities have not released the suspect's age and are investigating whether he knew the victims, as well as searching for a motive. The school had recently begun its academic year, and many students witnessed the event.

The sound of gunshots rang out during lunch Wednesday at Evergreen High School in Evergreen, Colorado. There was a guy there, he yelled some things, and he shot at us. Some students sheltered in classrooms. Others made a frantic dash into the neighborhood. Ring the doorbell! Ring video captures panicked students trying to find refuge at a home. I heard gunshots, I ran. I was scared to death and speechless. To really try to just find a house to get into and stuff, because I didn't know where the shooter was, but the gunshots sounded like close. Ah! Police say officers arrived within two minutes and found two students with gunshot wounds. Two patients with CPR and another ambulance. The shooter is a juvenile male. We're not giving an age yet. The weapon used today was a handgun. Officers say they did not fire upon the suspect who fatally shot himself. Whether the suspect knew the victims is under investigation as police search for a motive. Obviously, we're gonna focus on that suspect's home, his car, his locker, all the things that we need to do to find out more about him and maybe why this happened. The student body of more than 900 started the school year less than a month ago. The sheriff's office said many of those students witnessed the shooting. I have so much more year, like I have more years to live for this, and I'm just grateful that I'm here.
