Fall has officially arrived, so if you're hoping to go leaf peeping this year, AccuWeather's Damien Lodes has the latest look at foliage conditions throughout the country.

AccuWeather has released an updated forecast for fall foliage across the United States, outlining when and where peak colors are expected. The timeline for peak foliage varies by region, beginning in the northern Rockies and far north in late September, and extending into early November in the Plains, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and parts of the East Coast.

Some areas are already experiencing early color changes, but drought conditions, particularly in the northeast, are expected to cause trees to shed leaves earlier than usual, potentially affecting the vibrancy of the season. While the northeast typically offers some of the most vibrant displays, this year the Plains are forecast to have the best conditions for viewing fall foliage.

Welcome back to AccuWeather Ahead, and yes, today is the first official day of fall, and whenever you think of fall, one of the things that normally comes to mind is the changing leaves. Well, here's an updated look at our fall foliage peak color timeline here for the U.S., and you can see that depending on where you live, this is where you see the peak timing for fall foliage. Now, it begins in late September here, right along either the Rockies or very far to the north, and this timeline extends all the way through early parts of November here across the plains, across parts of Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas especially, also parts of the East Coast. So, this is when you see the peak of fall colors. However, we are starting to see some fall colors changing right now with that foliage. This week, the outlook is we'll see some patchy areas here in the yellow, and then we're going to start to see some widespread fall foliage colors changing there in the orange. So, yeah, we're already starting to see some areas seeing some of that color, but unfortunately, the drought has been getting real bad across some of these areas, especially the northeast, and the northeast is normally where we have some of the peak viewing conditions for fall foliage. So, unfortunately, whenever trees start to dry out, they shed their leaves a lot earlier in the season. So, that's going to have some big impacts there if you're going to want to go leaf peeping is what they call it there across parts of the northeast. So, overall for the fall foliage forecast here, we're going to see the most vibrant conditions fortunately across the northeast, but still, we're going to be watching out for the conditions because of the drought. But overall here across the plains, this is where we are going to see the peak prime vibrant conditions there if you're going to go out and see any of the leaves here changing this year.
