Some Toronto Blue Jays fans are crying foul as Canadian residents are barred from buying tickets to potential American League Division Series games next week in New York at Yankee Stadium.

The New York Yankees have implemented a policy restricting postseason ticket sales at Yankee Stadium to residents of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. This measure, officially aimed at preventing ticket scalping, also prevents Canadian Toronto Blue Jays fans from buying tickets if the teams face each other in the playoffs. 

Such restrictions are not new in North American sports, with similar measures previously enacted by other teams, including the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Blue Jays themselves. While some fans have expressed frustration, the Boston Red Sox, another potential opponent, have stated they do not impose such restrictions on ticket sales.

Officially, the Yankees say it's to prevent scalping, but it also cuts down on cheers for the visiting team. And one-one for Toshie. Bautista in the crowd. Just ask Jose Bautista, who led the Jays through the playoffs twice. Hail, hail, hail to you, Jose! Leaning on those rowdy, travelling fans. It's a privilege and a luxury that not a lot of teams have. The Jays are one of maybe a handful or less that get that kind of following. Restricting ticket sales isn't new. In 2023, Canadian residents were barred for 24 hours from buying tickets to the Toronto Maple Leafs second round playoff series in Florida. And the Jays only sell to buyers with a Canadian address. We play well here. You know, we love the support and the atmosphere here.
