All right, turning our attention back to events here in New York City, where overnight, Zoramah Mamdani won the city's mayoral race with a 34-year-old becoming New York's first Muslim mayor. Reaction to his win has been coming in thick and fast from not just here in the U.S., but overseas as well. CBS News foreign correspondent Ramey Innocencio joins us from London with more on that. Good morning, Ramey. So what kind of reaction have you seen to Mamdani's win, especially from those who know him? Yeah, absolutely, Errol. First off, CBS News has first-hand reaction out of Uganda, and I want to remind that Mamdani was born in the East African country. In his teens, he interned at one of the country's top papers, and we spoke to his mentor, Joseph Bayanga, and he told me that he and Uganda are proud, and that the Mamdani that he sees today is the Mamdani he knew about 20 years ago, and as you're about to hear, he was so effusive. Take a listen. Now, here we are, yeah! And when you did it, you always loved life. I'm not surprised here in New York, the city that never sleeps, the city of lights, and now you are taking on the big responsibility. Go on and serve the people. We are hoping for you, yeah! Then I realized he was not just interested in current affairs. He was interested in how the current affairs affect the people. If you're talking about big money, the budget, and all that, how does this affect the last person? It was time to have fun. He had fun. As a young man, he would have fun. But when it was time to interact with people, he talked to people looking straight in the eye and listening to what you are saying. Then I realized he has a big connection with people. People and the issues that affect people are close to his heart. Believes Mamdani will inspire others to rise for a change. Errol will have more on that interview in the next hours. Really interesting. His enthusiasm infectious there. And what other type of reaction are you seeing, Remy? Yeah, well, for sure, it's not all pride and praise everywhere. We do know that Mamdani has been accused of being anti-Semitic, pro-Hamas, and reactions out of Israel, in particular, about Mamdani, we're seeing are split along ideological lines. This is according to our CBS News colleagues in Israel who have been going through media coverage there this morning. They say that from the left, that Mamdani should be given a chance, but from the right, accusations that he is anti-Semitic and pro-Hamas. The headlines are out there. In addition, politically, Israel's ambassador to the United States, Danny Danon, called for Jewish solidarity on X. There's the post there on your screen. Mamdani's inflammatory remarks, he said, will not deter us. He called for strengthening of ties with Jewish community leaders to ensure their security. So you can see that there is praise and then there is also criticism as there is about Zoran Mamdani in the United States, and we're expecting more reactions and more from that interview later on.
