Serena Tanuri, 26, has pleaded not guilty to charges of using a carriage service to menace, harass, or offend after allegedly leaving a four-minute voicemail with suspicious sounds for nutritionist Mandy Saka. Tanuri's lawyer stated that she is severely mentally impaired, not anti-semitic, and was unaware of the complainant's Jewish faith until after police involvement. 

The incident began when Tanuri contacted Saka for fitness advice and later, according to her, accidentally dialed Saka's number. The voicemail, which reportedly contained sounds interpreted as gunshots, prompted Saka to alert authorities. Tanuri cooperated fully with police and maintains her innocence.

Leaving court, Serena Tanuri's lawyer says she's severely mentally impaired and wrongly accused of a hate crime. She's not anti-semitic. She doesn't even understand the conflict. With my mental health, I just wish people could understand. The 26-year-old is not into politics or religion, but last month she was trying to get fit, so reached out to nutritionist Mandy Saka. These are my go-to strategies. After finding her online, Serena sent a text. Hey, how are you? Is this Mandy? I saw somewhere that you helped Katie from married at first sight with her nutrition. I was wondering if you could help me as well. Later, at 1.30 in the morning, she maintains her phone accidentally dialed Ms Saka, leaving a four-minute voicemail. There are no words said in the recording. There are some sounds, and it is alleged that those sounds are gunshot sounds. It could be someone's exhaust going off as a car drives by. It could be a bed creaking. In the wake of Bondi, a fearful Ms Saka contacted a community security group who alerted police. Serena claims the first she knew about the voicemail was when detectives arrived on her doorstep the next day. She willingly handed over her phone and gave them access to everything on it. Until the point she was charged by the police, she did not even know that the complainant was of Jewish faith. Today, the newlywed pleaded not guilty to using a carriage service to menace, harass or offend. In these sensitive times, her lawyer stressed, they weren't critical of the complainant.
