Police are investigating after a woman is shot and killed in a hotel parking lot.

Police in Schaumburg, Illinois, are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred outside the Chicago Marriott Schaumburg hotel. Authorities responded to reports of a gunshot wound to the head and identified the victim as 45-year-old Christine Moyer from Kalina, Ohio. She was transported to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries.

The alleged gunman was detained at the scene and is in police custody. Officials state that the suspect and the victim knew each other and have described the incident as isolated. The motive and circumstances surrounding their presence at the hotel have not been confirmed by police or hotel management. Hotel staff and guests commended the quick response by authorities and staff following the incident.

Dane, it was a typical busy Friday night here at a popular hotel in the Northwest suburbs until a shooting stunned staff and guests. I was just inside by the ATM and I heard someone some people calling gunshot and then the manager was is there a gunshot and he didn't said he was calling the ambulance and then I just saw people you know move quickly to the elevator to the lobby. Flory Summers saw just some of the scene unfold in the Chicago Marriott Schaumburg on Friday night. Luckily she and her friends missed the chaos that unfolded outside. There's maybe two minutes after I walked inside the lobby from from the parking lot. Video shows where it all happened in front of the hotel entrance. Crime scene tapes surround some of the parking lot and driveway. Schaumburg police say they responded to the report of a person with a gunshot wound to the head around 1015 Friday night. The medical examiner identified the victim as 45 year old Christine Moyer from Kalina, Ohio. She was rushed to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge where she died. Police say the gunman was detained at the scene and taken into custody. Police report that the gunman and Moyer knew each other and they describe it as an isolated incident. Still it doesn't sit right with David Zimmel. Just out of the ordinary for something like this to happen out here. When pulling into the hotel on Saturday Zimmel says he and his wife quickly suspected that something had happened overnight. The tactical they were here looking at in the lawn they were taking pictures when we pulled up I noticed that right away and they were just down there looking the management was out here it looked like it was all safe and everything but it looked like there's definitely something going on. Hotel staff tell me a wedding reception was held at the hotel on Friday night. Hotel guests that we spoke to off-camera suspected that Moyer was a guest at the wedding but police in the hotel are not confirming why the victim and gunman were at the Marriott. It makes you a little more aware that things can happen anywhere doesn't matter where you are. We reached out to the Marriott press office as well as the general manager here at the Marriott in Schaumburg and we did not immediately hear back.
