A woman has been arrested for holding up a Commonwealth Bank branch at Knifepoint during broad daylight, close to a police training facility at Kingsgrove.

A 38-year-old woman was arrested after allegedly attempting to rob a Commonwealth Bank branch in Kingsgrove, Sydney, while armed with a utility knife. The incident occurred in broad daylight, with police responding within three minutes due to the bank's close location to a police training facility. 

The woman is accused of stealing the knife from a nearby homeware store before threatening bank staff and demanding money. Police quickly cleared the bank of customers, and no injuries were reported. The woman was apprehended at the scene and taken to Coggera Police Station for questioning, where she is expected to undergo a mental health assessment and face charges. The bank branch was closed for the remainder of the day.

Police say a woman held up this Commonwealth bank armed with a knife, but this bank is just metres away from a police training facility and a patrol car happened to be driving by, so they responded within three minutes flat. Now, let me show you some surveillance footage. We can see a 38-year-old woman wearing a green jumper entering a homeware store around 10.10 this morning with a suitcase. She's accused of stealing a utility knife that was then used to threaten bank tellers across the road while demanding money. Police have quickly cleared customers and thankfully no one was injured. It's understood they then locked down the bank with her still inside. Detectives cordoned off the area for several hours while forensics got to work. A bench along the footpath is forming part of the investigation tonight where a knife was found lying on top. CommBank says it's aware of the incident and its priority is the safety of employees and customers. The branch remained closed today and is expected to reopen tomorrow. Now, Sandra, the woman was arrested on the spot and she's been taken to Coggera Police Station for questioning. She's expected to undergo a mental health assessment and charges are also expected to be laid. Olivia Blunden, thank you.
