Discussions are ongoing about potentially changing the deadline for the stopgap measure, which could require further action from the House of Representatives.

For the eighth time, the Senate has failed to advance a bill to reopen the government, as President Trump ramps up his pressure campaign on Democrats. The Democrats are getting killed on the shutdown because we're closing up programs that are Democrat programs that we were opposed to. So we're being, and they're never gonna come back in many cases. CBS News Congressional Reporter Torian Small joins us now from our Washington Bureau with the latest on this. Good morning, Torian. So what does this mean for the big picture that a vote has failed for the eighth time? Does it mean that maybe each side is getting closer or that this may, in fact, be quite a long shutdown? Earl, it doesn't look like we're any closer to a resolution. As I've been saying for weeks now, it's more apparent that Republican leadership, Democratic leadership are more interested in talking to the public, holding daily press conferences at this point, shaming the other side than they are to actually coming to the table to negotiating something. The sticking point here for Democrats is the fact that this continuing resolution doesn't address their key priority, which is ensuring healthcare premiums, which are set to go up because of a tax credit set to expire at the end of the year, are a part of this conversation. Republicans, however, are pushing what they're calling a clean continuing resolution, keeping spending levels as they were ahead of this government shutdown. Here's what both sides had to say. I don't have anything to negotiate. I'll say this again to everyone here. We did not load up the temporary funding bill with any Republican priorities or partisan priorities at all. We're open to sitting down anytime, any place with anyone. Democrats have been very clear. We're not gonna support a partisan Republican spending bill that continues to gut the healthcare of the American people. And I wanna point out a new wrinkle in all of this. It's been two weeks now since the government has shut down. The stopgap measure is set to give Congress time, about seven weeks, to negotiate a full appropriations bill. Leader Thune, John Thune of the Senate, says that now a point of discussion is whether or not they would have to change the deadline for this stopgap measure. If that happens, that means the House would have to come back and re-vote on this bill because there will be a modification to it, Errol. All right, important information for our viewers to remember.
