Hurricane Erin is currently intensifying, with sustained winds of 50 miles per hour, and is expected to transition from a tropical storm to a hurricane. The storm is projected to strengthen further, potentially reaching category three status as it approaches Puerto Rico and Bermuda. These areas are at high risk for significant rain and wind impacts, while parts of the US East Coast, including Virginia, North Carolina, and the Maritime Canadian coast, face a medium threat of tropical rain and wind damage. Dangerous seas and rip currents are anticipated along much of the US and Canadian East Coast, as well as throughout the Bahamas and Leeward Islands. The storm's path is being influenced by a Bermuda high, steering it westward before it turns northward near Puerto Rico.

Where might Hurricane Erin cause impacts?

You look at this overall radar view, this loop that we have at the beginning was a little bit unorganized, kind of hard to really make out, but you can see at the end of this loop, it's starting to become a lot more organized and that is trending in the, that's been the trend here over the past couple of hours. Now, Aaron has sustained winds of 50 miles an hour, getting closer and closer to transitioning from that tropical storm phase to the hurricane phase. Looks like that's gonna happen early on Friday morning. So it looks like we might have another about 30 hours, 36 hours before that happens. Here's the overall eyepath here, updated active with exclusive eyepath. Aaron will continue this westwardly track, looking to become a hurricane early Friday morning. And then after that, it looks like it's gonna start to make a northern track shift, take a little bit of a right turn there, right around Puerto Rico. And around that time, it also looks like it's going to strengthen to a major category three hurricane. There as we head into the weekend, or it looks like a Sunday is when that is gonna happen. So heads up for that. We're gonna be tracking the latest. As far as any impacts from Aaron of what we are gonna be watching out for, the most impacts will be felt by Bermuda and Puerto Rico. That's where we're gonna have a high risk there for both rain and wind. Now for the East Coast of the US, even parts of the Gulf, we'll be watching out for a low threat, but some pockets, some areas along the coastal areas, including the Virginia and North Carolina coast and the Maritime Canadian coast, we'll see an elevated medium threat for tropical rain and wind damage here on that impact risk scale. Now dangerous seas and rip currents will be possible pretty much across the entire East Coast of the United States and Canada here as we head throughout the 18th through the 22nd. So we're talking late this weekend into early parts of next week. As far as the weekend goes, the main impacts are gonna be felt here stretching from the Leeward Islands, Puerto Rico, all the way through the Bahamas. This is where we're gonna see, once again, high swells, dangerous rip currents will be possible here as we head into early parts of next week. So that Bermuda high is what's mainly steering Aaron right now. And the location of that high is causing these steering winds to go pretty much from east to west almost directly, which is exactly why Aaron is taking that same directional path. So we're gonna continue to watch this and keep you up to date.
