The redevelopment includes carer beds, private bathrooms, family suites, expanded intensive care wards, new cancer services, and a state-wide burn service.

Both major political parties have claimed credit for the project, which began under the former Liberals and Nationals Government. The hospital is expected to begin fitting out rooms and training staff in the coming weeks, with doors scheduled to officially open to patients and families by mid-year.

People often have to leave jobs, they're dislocated from their communities and their families and that's why we're trying to do everything possible to keep families together. A home away from home. They're not going to want to go home because they're so beautiful. With the best medical facilities too, including a major expansion of its intensive care wards and new cancer services, Westmead will also be home to a new state-wide burn service. Certainly something to squeal about. I agree with you. And both sides of politics are claiming credit. We funded this project, delivery started under the former Liberals and Nationals Government so it is a good day now that it's finally come to fruition. What you're seeing now is the calm before the next phase begins. Over the coming weeks, rooms will be fitted out and staff training will ramp up before patients and their families can finally move in.
