A dam in the Village of Merton is showing a "high potential for failure," according to the Village of Hartland Police Department.

Water levels in the area remain high, and officials are anticipating an additional rush of water from Bark Lake in Richfield. Local residents have expressed concern, noting that water levels are unusually high compared to previous years. Authorities have advised the public to stay away from the area due to the dangerous conditions.

Engineers and first responders in Merton are keeping a close eye on a dam that could be in danger of failing, so this is a live look at that area this morning. This is the merchant Mill Pond and dam. It is filled after heavy rain and flooding in that area, and as our photographer kind of pans over to the right there, you can see that dam is so overwhelmed with water that it started to erode and form a sinkhole that is right on the platform to the right of the dam, which is a popular fishing area and the Merton and the water levels are just so high in that area and surrounding the area as well, that the dam flooded on Monday and officials are expecting a rush of water to come towards the dam from Bark Lake in Richfield. So TMJ4 spoke with Scott, who owns a business near that dam, and John, who came to see the situation for himself. I've never seen this. I've never 38 years. I've never seen this. Usually we're standing in that water. It's up to our ankles or our shins and me and my boys are fishing in there. So now it's like whitewater afting out there, you know? Yeah, so the village is asking residents to stay away from the rushing water.
