Ward returned to Wisconsin several months later and now faces a possible jail sentence of up to nine months. The case has drawn attention due to the unusual circumstances surrounding his attempted disappearance and subsequent return.

In reality, the Green Lake County Sheriff says he left his family behind, then traveled to another country after he had been talking with a woman from Ubekistan. Bogward returned to Wisconsin in December and now faces up to nine months in jail.
