South Australian farmers facing ongoing drought have received some relief with a much needed hay delivery arriving, funded by the State Government and charities. The region continues to suffer from a prolonged dry spell.

Recent rainfall has offered some hope, but the situation remains challenging. A major relief effort, involving 90 trucks transporting 6,000 bales of hay and straw from Western Australia, has arrived to support farmers on the Eyre Peninsula. The initiative is funded by the South Australian Government's $73 million drought support package and supported by charities such as Farmers Across Borders and Need for Feed. While the aid is a significant lifeline for nearly 2,000 farmers, the outlook for a return to normal conditions remains uncertain.

Rainfall and fodder, vital signs of relief for South Australian farmers continuing to battle drought conditions. I've been dairy farming for well over 40 years, in my own right, and this is the most stressful period. Many farmers buckling under the hardship, forced to give up their livestock as a result. What this rain means is, I think, some hope for our farmers who have been doing it so, so tough. But it means still that there is a long way to go. 90 trucks dubbed the Convoy of Compassion coming to their aid, transporting 6,000 bales of hay and straw from Western Australia, across the Nullarbor, to Woodna on SA's Eyre Peninsula. It's a lifesaver for many farmers. We need to look after our stock. Animal welfare is front and centre. The shipment is funded by the SA Government's $73 million drought support package, backed up by numerous charities, including Farmers Across Borders and Need for Feed. This particular run is one of the biggest we've seen to South Australia, and it brings the number of farmers that have been helped since the beginning of the year to almost 2,000 farmers. These people are prepared to go to these lengths to help us in our time of need. And for that, we'll never be able to say a big enough thank you.
