The fighting, which included artillery exchanges and airstrikes, has resulted in over 30,000 Cambodians being displaced and at least eight fatalities. Despite a brief lull, hostilities resumed, with both sides exchanging fire and military vehicles moving towards the front lines. The situation remains volatile, with a ten-kilometre red zone established along the border and ongoing efforts to evacuate civilians.

All quiet on the eastern front. After a day of heavy shelling on the Thai-Cambodian border, the big guns fell silent on Saturday morning. A huge relief for those who haven't already fled. Today is quiet. It's quiet. I haven't heard any noise since this morning. I did hear something in the distance, but nothing around here. At the local hospital, damage done by Cambodian rockets in previous days. Thailand says this was a deliberate attack, and evidence of a war crime. In a nearby village, close to Tham and Thom temple, where fighting first broke out, local defence forces who'd stayed to protect property and livestock. Then a message on the shortwave radio. Take cover. We're about ten kilometres away from the Cambodian border, and a warning just came through on the radio from the military that shelling was going to start again. We've heard a couple of loud thuds. Everyone here is now in the shelters, and it's very clear that the ceasefire that was holding in this area this morning is over. The dull thud of artillery, big guns in the rear, mortars close to the front line. Over the next hour, a steady rate of fire, 90% outgoing from Thailand. Bursts of Grad rockets and mortars, as the Cambodians replied. Then a lull, as a column of Thai armour moved up to the front lines. Armoured personnel carriers and Humvees, with heavy machine guns on top. In the air, Thai F-16 and Gripen fighters, sent to take out Cambodian artillery positions. On the other side of the border, civilians praying for their lives. More than 30,000 Cambodians now displaced from the border, eight have been killed. Back in Thailand, the barrage finally eases, as the defence volunteers emerge from their bunkers. I want the two countries to talk and negotiate, and a ceasefire so that people of the two countries can come home and work like we did before. A ten kilometre red zone now runs all along the border with Cambodia. The sound of speeding military vehicles, and the boom of outgoing artillery.
