The USS Cod in Cleveland hosted a picnic event for veterans from the Louis Stokes VA Hospital, reviving an annual tradition that had been paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Organised by the Cod Base Veterans Organization, the event provided hospitalised veterans—many without visiting family—the opportunity to socialise, enjoy lunch, participate in tours, and engage in shoreside activities.

This marks the first time since the pandemic that such an event has been held, following changes in VA policies. The gathering was described as veterans supporting fellow veterans, with submarine veterans hosting the day for hospital residents.

Well, an annual event is back after being canceled because of COVID. Today, veterans at the VA's Louis Stokes Hospital were able to have a picnic aboard the USS Cod. A member of Cod Base Veterans Organization says trips outside the VA hospital are organized as a special event for resident patients who often don't have family to visit. The veterans got to hang out with each other, grab some lunch, some tours, and shoreside activities as well. This is just a conglomeration of veterans servicing veterans. This side of the fence, we're all submarine vets. And we're hosting those guys because it's something we do. Fun day picnics aboard USS Cod were an annual event for VA residents pre-COVID. And this is the first time a similar event has been scheduled since because of VA policies.

Following four days of border clashes which have left over 30 people dead, the two sides have agreed to Malaysia acting as a mediator in the conflict.
