Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen warned that any U.S. takeover of Greenland could signal the end of NATO. Meanwhile, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, when questioned at the Global Europe Forum, declined to comment directly on the dispute and instead highlighted the importance of protecting the Arctic region for the entire alliance.

During a press conference ahead of the meeting, Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Greenland's Prime Minister Jens Frederik Nielsen emphasized Greenland is not for sale. Trump has repeatedly pushed the issue and has not ruled out using military force to take the island. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen subsequently warned that a U.S. takeover of Greenland would mark the end of NATO. When asked to comment on the situation at the Global Europe Forum at the European Parliament on Tuesday, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said it was not his role to get involved in discussions between allies. Instead he redirected the question to emphasize the necessity to protect the Arctic, which he said involved the entire alliance.
