This declaration was swiftly condemned by Israel, which described the move as rewarding terrorism, and by the United States, which withdrew from ceasefire talks with Israel, blaming Hamas for a lack of good faith.

Canada's Prime Minister expressed support for a two-state solution but stopped short of recognizing a Palestinian state, while also criticizing Israel for not preventing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Some international voices, including a former UN special rapporteur, have called for stronger measures such as sanctions on Israel to advance peace efforts. Meanwhile, Palestinians in Gaza welcomed France's announcement but emphasized the urgent need for humanitarian aid.

Prime Minister Mark Carney, meanwhile, wrote Canada condemns the Israeli government's failure to prevent the humanitarian disaster in Gaza. Canada, he added, supports a two-state solution but he stopped short of planning to recognize one. So what is preventing us?
