A Ukrainian government delegation has met with prominent American weapons manufacturers during a U.S. visit, before President Volodymyr Zelensky’s meeting with President Donald Trump.

U.S. President Donald Trump has confirmed that discussions are underway with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about the possible provision of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. Trump noted that Ukraine is seeking advanced weaponry, including Tomahawk missiles, which have a range of up to 2,500 kilometres and can penetrate heavily defended airspace. 

Russia has warned that supplying such long-range missiles to Ukraine would be a 'red line' and could severely damage relations with the United States. The talks occur as military aid to Ukraine has dropped significantly in recent months, prompting NATO defence ministers to meet and address the decline in support.

With the friendly approach of Russia stalling, for weeks now, Trump's been brandishing the threat of allowing Ukraine tomahawk missiles, which can strike targets from 2,500 kilometres away, even in heavily defended airspace. Moscow has signalled that the long-range missiles were their new red line and that sending them would destroy their relations with the United States. Ukraine, meanwhile, is keen to crank up the pressure on Putin to push him towards making peace. President Trump and I have already discussed certain matters. There are outlines of decisions that could help, on patriots, on tomahawks. It is important to discuss sensitive issues in person. Not everything can be said over the phone. The talk of tomahawks comes as military aid to Ukraine has significantly fallen in recent months. Kiel data shows a 43% fall in military deliveries in July and August when a NATO initiative came into effect, allowing Europe and Canada to buy American weapons to help Kiev. NATO defence ministers were meeting in Brussels Wednesday to discuss how they can reverse that decline, one of multiple strategic concerns regarding Russia.
