The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) has confirmed its readiness to deliver substantial humanitarian aid to Gaza, pending the establishment of necessary political conditions. UNOPS executive director highlighted that the organization has 170,000 tons of food, medicine, and other aid prepared, and can mobilize 100 trucks of food daily, as well as fuel and hospital support, in the event of a ceasefire.

The UNOPS chief also defended the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) against allegations of infiltration, emphasizing its crucial role in providing health and education services in Gaza. Looking ahead, UNOPS is preparing for post-conflict recovery, including clearing millions of tonnes of debris from the territory.

The United Nations is in a position to bring immediate aid to Gaza. The executive director of UNOPS, the UN Office for Project Services, told Euronews. He assured that the international institution has all the logistical and humanitarian means at its disposal to help Palestinians in Gaza. The key element is we have 170,000 tons of food, medicaments and aid ready to enter into Gaza. We can, in the first 30 days of a ceasefire, we can bring 100 trucks of food daily. We can bring, as we did in the last ceasefire, one million litres of fuel. We can put six hospitals functioning. Da Silva stressed that what is lacking at the moment are the political conditions to be able to intervene. The Portuguese official also rejected the accusations made by Israel against UNRWA, the United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees, which the Hebrew state suspects is infiltrated by Hamas. Instead, Da Silva pointed out the essential role the organization plays. Without UNRWA, it's impossible to operate because UNRWA is the agency that, for instance, provides direct support on health and education to the children and to the citizens in Gaza. With peace talks ongoing, the UNOPS executive director is already thinking ahead. He says the agency is getting ready for the next big step, which is clearing out the 50 million tonnes of debris and waste scattered across the Palestinian territory.
