It's really hard to witness, and it's one of the responsibilities of this job, to be here to bear testimony, and to recognize not just what we're doing, which is important, but also more importantly what we're not doing. And it's that gap between what we're able to do and what we should be doing that enrages me. During his visit to the University Hospital in La Paix, Fletcher said that humanitarian efforts were insufficient, and that the funds could be exhausted by the end of September. Every day here, you're seeing thousands of people get the treatment that they need. It's only a drop in the ocean of women who have been victims of really sexual violence in the community. Men who are coming with bullets in their chests get to know nourishment, but they're getting treatment. But all of this is in jeopardy, because the crucial funding line runs out at the end of September. According to the UN, the gangs have taken almost total control of the capital, and the authorities are unable to stop the escalation of violence in this Caribbean country.
