The UN notes that over 30,000 buildings in Gaza City alone have been demolished or damaged, surpassing the damage seen in other areas such as Rafah and Khan Younis.

This video was taken before October 7, 2023. It shows a main road on the edge of Gaza City. That scene is now a distant memory. This is the same road, only a few days ago. The mosque and its two minarets have been destroyed. Buildings and houses have been reduced to rubble and replaced with tents. Seen from the sky, the image is even clearer. Houses of parking lots and rooftops are reduced to a field of dust. The United Nations report that in the Gaza Strip, 78% of buildings have been partially or totally destroyed. Hospitals, schools, and homes have all been damaged. The areas in red are the most severely affected. Areas in yellow have sustained more minor damages. Gaza City has been the hardest hit by Israeli strikes. According to the UN, 30,227 buildings have been demolished or damaged, even more than in Rafah or Hanounis. The last few weeks have been especially difficult, as the Israeli military pushes to take full control of the city. The damage can be seen in these satellite images, one taken in August and one a few days ago. Only a month separates these photos. To survive, residents of Gaza City are forced to move south. They gather in camps, alongside thousands of other refugees.
