An unofficial tribunal organised by former UK Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn convened in London to examine Britain's alleged involvement in Israeli military actions in Gaza. The tribunal, which does not carry legal authority, heard testimonies from medical workers, aid staff, and legal experts describing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and criticising the UK's response.

The event included statements from the UN Special Rapporteur, who accused countries including the UK of failing their legal obligations and called for severing ties with Israel. While the UK has suspended some arms export licences to Israel, Corbyn argued this measure is insufficient and called for further action. The UK Foreign Office did not provide a response to the tribunal.

It was the opening day of an unofficial tribunal examining Britain's alleged complicity in Israeli war crimes in Gaza, organised by the former Labour leader and UK Member of Parliament Jeremy Corbyn. Its findings won't carry legal weight, but the testimonies of those who witnessed the suffering in Gaza have been stark. Let me tell you about Ali and Aya, brother and sister, who I treated in Al-Aqsa Hospital last year. They were the sole remaining members of their family. We had to treat both of them without any pain relief at all. We had run out of all pain relief that day in Al-Aqsa Hospital. I can still hear their screams as we treated them without any anaesthetic. The tribunal also heard from the UN Special Rapporteur who accused countries, including the UK, of failing in their legal obligations. All ties with Israel must be cut. This is what it means to comply with international law and obligations to assure third parties, corporations, charities, individuals not to engage with Israel either, including universities. Beyond the legal case, the tribunal heard story after story of the horrific conditions in Gaza. We've heard powerful testimonies from aid workers, from medics, from legal experts. And while any outcome of this tribunal may be largely symbolic, it stands as yet another testament of the devastation that people in Gaza still endure. The UK has suspended some arms export licences to Israel. But Jeremy Corbyn says that is not enough. If we continue to supply parts, vital components to the F-35 jets, those are bombing hospitals and schools in contravention of all aspects of international humanitarian law, then that makes us complicit in breaches of international humanitarian law.
