Authorities have charged two men in relation to the killing of John Versace, a 23-year-old plumber who was shot outside his family home in Condell Park, New South Wales. Police state that Versace had no known criminal connections and was described as a hard-working young man.

The suspects, aged 19 and 43, were arrested following search warrants in Kasoola and Bankstown. They are accused of assisting in the planning and execution of the murder, but neither is alleged to have pulled the trigger. Both men have been refused bail and are due to reappear in court in January, as investigations continue into the motive and intended target.

Paramedics descended on Dalton Street on May 19th, but the young plumber couldn't be saved. Police say he has no known links to criminals. There's nothing to suggest that Mr Versace was anything but a hard-working young man that was living at home with his family and trying to set himself up for the rest of his life. Police now have two men in custody charged with his murder. Executing search warrants in Kasoola and Bankstown this morning, the homicide squad arrested 19-year-old Ahmad Najee and a 43-year-old who can't be named for legal reasons. The men are not alleged to have pulled the trigger. It is alleged that the 19-year-old male assisted in the planning and preparation of the murder through acquiring and staging vehicles at various locations. It is alleged that the 43-year-old male drove the person responsible for the shooting to Mr Versace's, waited in the vehicle whilst the shooting occurred, then drove the person responsible for the shooting from the location. A vehicle later set alight at Fairfield East. Both men were refused bail and will reappear in court in January. Six months on, police are still investigating who the killer intended to target and why. Detectives described Versace's murder as extremely brutal and distressing and they hope today's arrests lead them one step closer to identifying the shooter. Sarah Navin, 10 News.
