Michael Cohen, Donald Trump's former lawyer, is testifying against the former U.S. president in a civil fraud case in New York City, telling the court he helped Trump wildly inflate the value of his real estate.

Face to face with his former boss, Michael Cohen, showed just why he's considered a star witness for the New York attorney general. On the stand, he quickly and clearly affirmed the allegations against Donald Trump, testifying that he helped wildly inflate the value of Trump's properties. He said, I was tasked by Mr. Trump to increase the total assets based upon a number that he arbitrarily elected. Cohen said he would reverse engineer the financial statements to, quote, achieve the number that Mr. Trump asked us. One year, Cohen said Trump wanted to increase his net worth by almost $2 billion. In a fiery cross-examination, Trump's lawyer called Cohen a serial liar. Outside the courtroom, Trump did the same. He's a disgraced felon, and that's the way it's coming out, and I think you all see that. Cohen pleaded guilty to several charges in 2018, including tax evasion and violating campaign finance laws, all connected to his time working as Trump's so-called fixer. I did it at the direction of, in concert with, and for the benefit of Donald J. Trump. Unlike the criminal cases that Trump is currently fighting, relating to his time as president, this civil fraud case is all about his real estate business, prosecutors alleging he inflated its value, defrauding banks and insurance companies in the process. Attorney General Letitia James is suing him and his associates for $250 million. At every opportunity, Trump has denied the allegations. This case, by any other judge, this case would have been over a long time ago. We did nothing wrong, and that's been proven. Chris, you were at court today. I'm so curious, what was it like between the two men? Well, Adrienne, they were positioned across from each other, mere meters apart, but they barely acknowledged each other. They went in and out of the room at different times, never crossing paths. Repeatedly, during Cohen's testimony, he referred to his former boss as Mr. Trump, but never really looked his way while doing it. Now, tomorrow might be a different story, might get more heated as cross-examination continues, which if today is any indication, will not be friendly. All right, Chris Reyes in New York.
