A former lawyer for Donald Trump, Sidney Powell, pleaded guilty on Thursday to election interference charges in Georgia and agreed to testify against a former U.S. president if called. Powell, a former federal prosecutor, helped spread false claims about the 2020 presidential election. She appeared on TV weeks after the vote and claimed without evidence that millions of votes were shifted from Trump to Joe Biden in a scheme involving Venezuela and other powers. Powell's plea came just days before she's set to go on trial Monday. Her deal with Fulton County prosecutors comes with a sentence of six years probation. She's now the second defendant to plead guilty in the sprawling Georgia racketeering and election fraud case involving the former U.S. president and 17 others. It's a significant victory for Fulton County District Attorney Fannie Willis as she gains cooperation of a lawyer closely tied to Trump. Trump faces four criminal cases, including the one in Georgia. He's set to attend a number of trials in 2024, just as he makes another run for the White House.

Search and rescue operations continued overnight after flash floods slammed central Texas, killing dozens, officials said. More than 20 children are still missing from Camp Mystic, an all-girls camp hit by the floods, the Kerr County sheriff said.
