Although she has no official role, her influence in the government remains strong, and the media were out in full force to hear what she had to say. Security, not surprisingly, was tight, as were her responses when asked about the fighting. Prime Minister, very quick question. Do you think a ceasefire is possible? Right now you have to ask Phumthang instead of me. I can't really answer that. Phumthang, the acting Prime Minister, is now in charge. But did she feel betrayed by the former Cambodian PM who leaked the conversation that got her suspended? So do you regret that conversation with Hun Sen? Her father, Thaksin Shinawat, had spent Sunday a little further north, meeting people displaced from the borderlands. Many feel this conflict is a consequence of the breakdown of his relationship with Hun Sen. Both powerful former leaders with children as Prime Ministers, both wielding power behind the scenes. But overnight it was another powerful man who intervened. US President Donald Trump posting on social media that he had spoken to the acting Prime Ministers in both countries and told them they had to climb down. The punishment if they didn't, higher tariffs on trade with the US. In Cambodia, that message was well received. I think it is possible to stop the conflict because Donald Trump's country has the power to stop it. For me I think it's 50-50. Because Thailand is difficult. We don't know who's in charge. The army doesn't listen to the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister shouts. They don't listen. They do something else. So it's difficult to control the situation. But for a fourth day the fighting continued, with a large build-up of troops and weapons along the border. Paying the price are hundreds of thousands of people now living in temporary camps along both borders. Conditions are basic and the trauma of flight and war are starting to show. While the diplomatic posturing between Bangkok and Phnom Penh continues, there are now more than 200,000 people who have been evacuated from their homes on both sides of the border.
