This follows a US military strike on Christmas Day targeting Daesh militants in northwest Nigeria, which was described by both the White House and Nigerian authorities as a joint operation against terrorists.

The Nigerian government has rejected claims that Christians face systematic persecution in the country, emphasizing that both Muslims and Christians have been victims of militant violence. Nigeria continues to face security challenges, including attacks and kidnappings by Islamic insurgents in the northern regions.

While it has grappled with repeated security issues, including violence and kidnappings by Islamic insurgents in the north, Nigeria rejects that Christians face systematic persecution. According to authorities in the country, militants have killed many Muslims as well as Christians.
