He also highlighted his past as a guerrilla member and stated he would defend his position if necessary, while clarifying that Trump's comments could be interpreted as referring to upcoming elections rather than direct intervention.

Responses have been mixed across the region and along bordering nations. Some Venezuelans celebrate the development while others are accusing the U.S. of trying to steal the country's oil. CBS News national security, or national correspondent, I should say, Lilia Luciano, continues her reporting at the Venezuelan border with Colombia. Lilia, hello to you once again. You know, we've discussed that the president has threatened Colombia's president just as recently as last night, saying that, and if it's generating, I wonder if that's generating fear that something similar to what happened to Maduro could happen there. Well, I think it's important to stress something, that there is a big difference between Colombia's president and Venezuela's former authoritarian leader. Colombia is a democracy, and President Trump and the administration could have concerns about how much cocaine the Petro administration might be allowing. And there's certainly widespread criticism about how lenient he is with the guerrillas here. Petro insists, and he told me when I interviewed him a couple of months ago, that he's the president who has seized the most cocaine in the history of Colombia. It's also the time when the most cocaine is being produced, is important to mention. But there's a big difference. There's no indictment. There are sanctions from the Treasury Department, but there's no indictment against Petro like there was against Maduro, who had a $50 million reward on his head. So, legally speaking, at this point, they're very different situations. Petro responded to the questions that Trump was asked yesterday when he said that Petro might not be there for much longer. And when he was asked, does this mean that there could be an operation like Venezuela? And he kind of quipped or mentioned that that's not a bad idea. Petro responded today and said what he told me when I interviewed him and asked him about prior threats about Trump. He said that he doesn't trust the translation. He doesn't speak English very well. He doesn't trust the translations that are put out there by the Colombian media. Trump was clear, but he could have been vague. If Trump meant that Petro's not going to be there much longer because the U.S. is going to do an operation, that's something different from Petro's not going to be there a lot longer because there's an election coming and he's not running again. So, in a few months, there's going to be another president elected. So, that's what Trump could mean. Still, Petro, in his response, said and reminded people in his ex-response that in the past, he was a guerrilla member. He was a member of the M-19, a socialist guerrilla, and that he put down his arms but that he would be willing to pick them back up. And he said that he's commanded that his army stay loyal to him. So, clearly, there is a concern there. Wow. All right.

Britain and France have said they could send troops to Ukraine if a ceasefire is agreed. The pledge came at a Paris meeting of 30 nations, including the US, on security guarantees demanded by Kyiv before any peace deal.
