Ontario Premier Doug Ford, who was behind the ad, has used the publicity to appear on U.S. networks, while some Canadian politicians express concern about the ad's impact on trade talks. Conservative leader Pierre Pauliev criticized Carney's handling of the situation, but Carney maintains that Canada is ready to resume negotiations when the U.S. is willing.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford who was behind the ad is capitalizing on the publicity appearing on U.S. networks and running op-eds drawing concerns from some of his colleagues. I'm not sure that it's helpful. In fact I don't think it is helpful. A trade deal is the goal and there's going to be a lot of noise between now and whenever we're able to get to that point and I'm confident that we will. We keep our eye on that deal. In an exclusive interview with chief political correspondent Rosemary Barton Conservative leader Pierre Pauliev says Carney should be held accountable. He promised he could negotiate a win with President Trump. Those were his promises. Some might say look it's unrealistic to expect to get that from President Trump. So why did he promise it? Mark Carney has maintained from the get-go that progress was being made on trade and that Canada is prepared to go back to the negotiating table whenever the U.S. is ready.
