President Trump appearing to post unpublished jobs data last night on Truth Social. Let's get to Eamon Javers with more details. So what's the story here, Eamon? Yes, Sarah, this one was flagged by Bloomberg News a short time ago. It's an interesting one and worth diving into a little bit. Take a look at one of these graphics that the president posted on Truth Social last night around 8 o'clock in the evening. About four or five charts posted by the president. What you're looking at here is analysis by the Council of Economic Advisers, obviously which works for the White House, of the upcoming jobs number that wouldn't be released until this morning. So if you looked at these numbers you could probably do some math and get a sense directionally maybe of where things were going. It's not the jobs number itself though that the president posted. It's CEA analysis of underlying BLS jobs data. Now as you know, as I know, of those of us who covered this BLS data for years, secrecy around this number is almost a religion in Washington on Wall Street because it is so market-moving. It is such powerful information for the market that there's an elaborate set of protocols at BLS and in Washington to keep this data secret. There's cybersecurity procedures, there's documents you have to sign if you're going to come anywhere near this data over the Department of Labor, all of the rest of it. However, the White House has traditionally gotten this number and the underlying data the night before it's released publicly. That goes back years and decades and is standard operating procedure. What's not standard operating procedure is for the president to post it on social media before the number comes out on Friday morning with all of Wall Street watching with bated breath. So, you know, what are the rules around this? Well, it's a Department of Labor rule at the BLS about not releasing unauthorized data. The White House hasn't responded to our question for comment on this. My guess, Sarah, is what the White House will say is, well, all the rules are about unauthorized disclosure of this data. This disclosure, of course, was authorized because the president is the ultimate authorizing authority here as the boss of the Department of Labor and by extension the BLS itself. So I think, you know, there's gonna be a lot of questions about this, but ultimately it seems clear to me anyway, as a non-expert from where I sit, the president would have the authority to simply authorize the release of this when he wants to. It would be very unconventional, very surprising, but this is an unconventional and surprising president. I think the interesting issue to look at here, though, Sarah, is the idea that the president is now taking this taxpayer finance data and putting it on his privately owned social media site, Truth Social. He's creating content for his own social media site here with this taxpayer finance data and that creates a personal financial benefit for the president of the United States. It's going to create a lot of attention to that website. If the market thinks, you know what, you got to watch Truth Social the night before the jobs number, we're gonna pay attention to that website. All of that advertising then becomes valuable, all of those eyeballs become valuable, and the president has now created a personal financial benefit for himself that didn't exist before based on this taxpayer information. So I think, you know, there's gonna be a lot of questions about this, Sarah, as we go forward. No, it already has been for a year, Eamon, the separate pipeline of state information via a private firm and already some forensic work being done on how Polly Market moved after that post and how ES Futures, S&P Futures, moved last night.
