Donald Trump has formally accepted the Republican nomination for president of the United States. The announcement came amid heightened emotions within the party, following an assassination attempt on Trump and perceived troubles within Joe Biden's reelection campaign. Trump's speech was a mix of personal recounting and policy proclamations.

The former president began by describing the assassination attempt, emphasizing his survival as a providential moment. He stressed the apparent divine intervention and detailed how the crowd thought he was dead but was relieved when he rose surrounded by Secret Service agents. 

In a conciliatory tone, Trump extended a hand of loyalty and friendship to all citizens, irrespective of their political affiliation or background. However, he sharply criticized the Biden administration, labeling it failed and incompetent. Trump's proposed agenda includes significant tax cuts, reviving American industry, rejecting environmental policies, and focusing on an oil-based energy policy.

Throughout his address, Trump frequently returned to the topic of immigration. He reiterated several claims that have been debunked by independent fact-checking organizations, describing immigration as an "invasion" and vowing to implement mass deportations and complete a wall across the southern border. He concluded his speech reaffirming his commitment to the slogan, "Make America Great Again."

I proudly accept your nomination for president of the United States. The former president and once again Republican nominee was welcomed on stage with the typical fervour of the Trump faithful. Thank you very much. His right ear still bandaged after he was wounded in an assassination attempt. Trump spent the first 15 minutes of his speech talking about the incident. He spoke about how he narrowly avoided death, even suggesting a divine anointment. Many people say it was a providential moment, probably was. When I rose, surrounded by Secret Service, the crowd was confused because they thought I was dead. During his speech, Trump seemed to at times take a conciliatory tone, calling for unity. To every citizen, whether you're a young or old man or woman, Democrat, Republican or Independent, Black or White, Asian or Hispanic, I extend to you a hand of loyalty and of friendship. But he attacked the Biden administration on all fronts, calling it failed and incompetent. Trump outlined a sweeping populist agenda, promising to massively cut taxes, revive American industry, reject environmental policies and focus on an oil-based energy policy. We will drill, baby, drill. But again and again throughout the speech, he returned to one major theme, blaming the woes of the United States on immigration. He repeated claims he's made before that have been consistently debunked by independent fact-checking organizations. They're coming from everywhere. They're coming at levels that we've never seen before. It is an invasion indeed. They're coming from prisons. They're coming from jails. They're coming from mental institutions and insane asylums. He promised a mass deportation operation and vowed to finish building a wall across the southern border. And he ended his speech with the motto that's been the byword of Trump and Trumpism since 2016. We will very quickly make America great again. Thank you very much.
