Even as he announced a trade agreement Sunday, the president continued to face questions about Jeffrey Epstein. Mr. President, it was part of the rush to get this deal done, so not the Jeffrey Epstein story. Oh, you got to be kidding with that. No, had nothing to do with it. Only you would think that. That had nothing to do with it. Members of both parties have called for more transparency, including a bipartisan push to force the Department of Justice to release the files related to Epstein. It's important, though, that this is not something that is anti-President Trump. This is for transparency. He was going to be the guy who holds all the rich and powerful and politically connected people accountable, and that's why there's so much disappointment right now. The Justice Department has also not released any details about what Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche learned during his two-day interview with Epstein's co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell. Maxwell's defense lawyer says Maxwell answered all questions and did not invoke her Fifth Amendment rights. Last week, the president didn't rule out a pardon for Maxwell. It's something I haven't thought about. It's something I'm allowed to do, but it's something I have not thought about. Asked about it Sunday, House Speaker Mike Johnson said it's the president's decision, but added, If you're asking my opinion, I think 20 years was a pittance. I think she should have a life sentence, at least. Not my decision, but I have great pause about that, as any reasonable person would. Former Department of Justice officials told CBS News it's likely Maxwell was given limited immunity during the interview to speak freely about the cases and about Epstein's crimes, but the agency and Maxwell's defense lawyer did not respond to requests for comment about immunity.
