A tornado touched down in the Houston, Texas area, causing significant damage to over 100 homes and buildings, including an emergency services facility. The storm also uprooted numerous trees, blocked streets, and downed power lines, leading to a small fire that was quickly contained by shutting off gas to a generator.

First responders and residents worked through the night to clear debris and restore access to affected neighborhoods. Officials are continuing to survey the damage and are also investigating reports of possible tornado activity in the Austin area.

She just touched down. Texans watched as this massive funnel cloud loomed over the sky Monday. That's an actual tornado. Where Houston suburbs took a direct hit and its ferocious winds were captured on this fire engine's camera. It was really almost like narrow, quick, and it traveled really fast. The destruction spread far and wide with more than a hundred homes and buildings in shambles, including this emergency services building where its roof was ripped away and two employees rode out the storm inside. One of them managed to hold on to a rack. The other one ducked underneath the table. You could imagine how terrified they were, but they were just fine. Beyond the damage to structures, the storm snapped and uprooted a massive number of trees. All these huge, beautiful trees, you know, gone. Leaving the area virtually impassable. And first responders overwhelmed. We still need a lot of chainsaws and heavy equipment to move some of these trees out of here. That work continued throughout the night with residents in the streets clearing broken branches and scattered debris in the pouring rain. We had pine trees blocking the street here. One of the pine trees fell and it was in the neighbor's yard across the street. We met up with Doris Warford, who rode out the storm in a closet with her family. It was just like, oh my God, what's happening? How long is this going to last? But it was over pretty quickly. And we came out and started to look around and we looked out in the backyard first and the deck had just folded like a deck of cards. Now, this area also had several power lines down, which even sparked a small fire here yesterday. Officials had to turn off gas to a generator to reduce that threat. Now, as the sun comes up today, officials are going to be continuing to survey this area for damage. They're also looking into the Austin area to see if there was any potential tornado there as well.
