It is called the rapture and it's a belief held by some evangelical Christians that Jesus will return to earth take the faithful to heaven with him and that everyone else will be left behind as the world ends. According to a South African pastor it is happening on September 23rd or 24th and his prediction has taken off online. And with how 2025 has gone so far it's hardly surprising that some people are hoping for it all to end. Hashtag rapture talk now has hundreds of thousands of posts from both believers and bemused onlookers. Some people have sold their cars prepared their houses and even quit their jobs ahead of the impending doom. One employee at the consulting firm KPMG even emailed their colleagues with a warning the rapture is coming and only ready Christians will survive. This prompted the firm to issue a response saying the content of that email does not reflect their values.
