On the side of the protesters who are facing severe repression from security forces, including the use of live bullets, the estimated death toll ranges from 2,000 to as many as 12,000. Human rights groups have denounced the Iranian regime's response to the protests, which initially started due to the country's economic crisis. Human rights NGOs also fear that the regime may use capital punishment against the protesters, as Iran's judiciary vowed fast-track trials for arrested suspects on Wednesday.
