Meanwhile, the ruling coalition's lead party, Phu Thai, has petitioned for the dissolution of parliament, which could result in a general election within 60 days if approved. The political situation has led to widespread frustration among the public, particularly younger, progressive voters, who feel that meaningful change has been slow. Despite the possibility of new elections, many Thais believe that real power remains with the courts rather than elected officials.

If granted, that would lead to a general election within 60 days. For popular podcast host John Winew, it's been hard to find many laughs in the political machinations of the last week. His viewers, mainly younger and politically progressive, have been frustrated by what they see as the erosion of democracy in recent years. Now at least, a chance to go back to the ballot box. In a way, for my audience, they feel like, OK, at least it's not four years, or at least it's not like almost five years. You know, you get to get a new election maybe like in two and a half years. Maybe that's progress. But progress is on hold while Thailand's in the grip of political paralysis. While there's been a lot of speculation in the media about who might or might not be moving here into government house, there's a wider frustration amongst the Thai public that regardless of the politicians moving in, they're not really able to do anything about the things that matter, like the economy. And the generation that took to the streets of Bangkok several years ago, demanding social and democratic change, has yet to see anything significant. I feel like I'm sitting in a car that I know is going to crash. There's no way to escape or prevent anything about it.
