Despite the agreement, thousands of families in Cambodia's Oddar Meanchey Province remain in evacuation camps, reluctant to return home due to ongoing safety concerns and uncertainty about the stability of the truce.

The ceasefire initially faced challenges, with accusations from the Thai army of violations, which Cambodia denied. Both sides have since agreed to measures aimed at maintaining peace, including troop reductions and improved communication. However, most displaced residents are waiting for further assurances before returning to their communities.

But even after the two countries had agreed to a ceasefire, she's still the only one in her community serving meals. That's because thousands of families from across the province of Oder Minchai have opted to stay in evacuation camps for the time being, despite the poor living conditions. Staying here is safer. I do not dare to go back home. I will go back when the authorities tell us to. The provincial capital, Samrong, still looks deserted. The streets and homes empty. Schools and businesses remain closed. The ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand got off to a shaky start. The Thai army has accused Cambodians of firing at multiple locations in violation of the deal. Cambodia has denied taking any military action since the truce came into effect. An early warning delay in meetings between regional commanders also raised fears that the fragile peace deal could be derailed. But as Cambodian military officials crossed into Thai-held territory, tensions eased. Both sides agreed to respect the ceasefire, stop building up troops, avoid confrontation and tension, and establish communication lines to share information. If other issues arise, they must seek advice from the top. Even then, only a handful of people headed back to border towns.
