Hundreds of tenants from Kansas City, Lee's Summit and other parts of the country gathered Saturday to voice complaints about their landlord, Capital Realty Group, citing issues ranging from pest infestations to heating problems.

Tenants from Kansas City and surrounding areas have organized a rally to protest against Capital Realty Group, citing insect infestations and substandard living conditions in several properties, including Parker Square and Sage Crossing. The event drew the attention of local officials, including the Kansas City mayor, and highlighted tenants' frustrations over unmet lease obligations and unclear use of renovation funds.

Port KC, a local agency, has acknowledged the complaints and is reviewing the situation, having previously approved significant funding for renovations at Parker Square. An independent inspection of the property is planned, with tenants hoping for improvements to their living conditions and greater accountability from the landlord.

Well that group of tenants represented several properties with one thing in common an out-of-state based landlord group and now Port KC is taking action as well. KSHB 41 news reporter Fernanda Silva heard the voices of tenants who say they've had enough. On Saturday tenants from Kansas City, Lee's Summit and other parts of the country gathered to share complaints about their landlord Capital Realty Group. I spoke to some of them and some live here at Parker Square Apartments and they tell me that they live in situations that no one should be dealing with. It's degrading, it's deep, it makes you feel like you're not a human. Why should I have to move? They should have better people to do the job. These three women have one thing in common. They all live in properties owned by Capital Realty Group. KC Tenant says the pictures and videos you see were taken at Parker Square and Sage Crossing. The tenants are saying enough is enough. Their goal now is to speak with the property owner and discuss their lease agreements. There are terms related to rent, related to major repairs that need to happen and some related to management. So essentially what what the tenants are asking for a lot of it is actually things that exist in their lease but are not being enforced. On Saturday afternoon we reached out to Capital Realty Group. We haven't heard back yet. Locally Port KC is in touch with the company. In a statement they say they are actively reviewing the concerns shared. The agency approved 32 million dollars in bonds for renovations at Parker Square in 2021. The tenants at Parker Square consistently are saying where did that money go? On Friday Port KC said they planned to perform an independent inspection at Parker Square and the results have not been released yet. While looking for answers, tenants are hoping for change.
