The suspect is dead, and nine officers are now on leave after an hours-long standoff with police in West Jordan.

A standoff between police and an armed suspect in West Jordan concluded with the suspect's death and nine officers being placed on leave. Authorities responded to a call about an armed man threatening individuals in a residence, prompting a shelter-in-place order for residents within a three-block radius. 

Police negotiated with the suspect for several hours and evacuated others from the home before losing contact. SWAT officers later entered the house, shots were fired, and the suspect, described as a man between 18 and 30 years old, was found dead. The investigation is ongoing, and the officers involved have been placed on leave as standard procedure.

that's what we know so far. We're live in West Jordan with Fox 13's Tina Juliano. Let's take a look. While you were getting ready for bed, people were sheltering in West Jordan as officers try to make contact with an armed suspect. That standoff ended with the suspect dead and multiple officers now on leave. FOX 13's Tina Giuliano joins us live with what we know so far about what happened. I know this very much scared the neighborhood who had to shelter in place, Tina. Yeah, it's been. It was. It was a very interesting night, especially because, uh, she was going in and out of her house, you know, doing doing her life and everything kind of was startling. And then, of course, she talked a little bit about how she doesn't really know the neighbors down there, but she says that they were they were very stoic and kind of kept to themselves what she told me. So taking a look here, you're seeing the house where this whole situation took place that there's still a heavy police presence in this neighborhood. There's still a lot of people out here. There's still a lot of people out here. There's still a lot of people out here. There's still a lot of people out here that are still in police presence in this neighborhood. There's caution tape and police tape right in front of right near us here, blocking off this last part of the cul-de-sac here. So what had happened was yesterday evening, a police cop. Call of an armed man threatening people in a home around five p.m. A shelter in place order was issued for everyone within three blocks in any direction of this neighborhood, telling them to stay where they are. The suspect was in a home with a woman and officers say that they got everyone else out of the house and began negotiating with him. But at some point during that time, police lost contact and the suspect wasn't responding. So police called in a warrant and SWAT. They entered the house around 10 p.m. Police say shots were fired. The suspect was dead. We don't know the name of the subject suspect at this point, but police say he was a man around 18 to 30 years old. Jeremy Robertson is the deputy chief of the Jordan Police Department, and he says that they negotiated for hours. Right for several hours to bring this to a peaceful resolution. We really hoped that that would have been the outcome. Unfortunately, we don't get to control all of those outcomes. Right now, police are still moving some of the caution tape around the house. They're still securing this house as much as possible. Several police organizations were involved in this situation. The officers involved will also be placed on leave so you can see just right there. Police are still redoing the tape and just still having a very big presence in this neighborhood, especially as many people are starting to get going and get on with their day. They're still wondering exactly what is happening. So we're going to continue to continue to keep you updated on the air and online as we learn more about this investigation.
