The Senate on Tuesday confirmed Susan Monarez to be President Donald Trump's director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Susan Monarez has been confirmed as the new director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) following a Senate vote of 51 to 47. Monarez was President Trump's second nominee for the role, after his initial nominee, David Weldon, was withdrawn.

Monarez has previously expressed support for vaccines and the pursuit of scientific evidence. However, during her confirmation hearing, she avoided addressing some related topics directly.

And the CDC finally has a new director. Susan Menares was confirmed on Tuesday after a Senate vote of 51 to 47. Menares was the second nominee tapped by President Trump. After his first choice, David Weldon was withdrawn. Menares had said in the past that she is for vaccines and pursuing scientific evidence, although she dodged several of those topics when questioned at her confirmation hearing.
