The United Nations estimates that over 40,000 people have been killed and more than 14 million displaced, making it the world's worst humanitarian crisis, while international attention remains limited.

The conflict in Sudan broke out in April 2023 between the military and the RSF, or Rapid Support Forces. Experts on the region say the RSF are unlikely to sign on to this proposal. Which would mean giving up their military power. The Trump administration has called for an immediate humanitarian truce without preconditions, while United Nations representatives criticize the country supplying arms to the warring sides and accuse the international community of ignoring the conflict.
