The hydroelectric dam, which is Africa's largest, is located on the Blue Nile tributary of the River Nile, just on the border with Sudan. Ethiopia is expecting the dam to boost its economy and double its electricity generation capacity. But the dam has triggered tensions with neighbours. While Sudan suggested a link between the floods and the dam, Ethiopia said on Monday that the GERD had helped to lessen the rise in water levels.
